Radius Corner Round Router Bit with Insert

Design and Construction

The radius corner round router bit with insert pairs a 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel body with replaceable tungsten carbide insert knives. Diameter (ØD) 27 mm with 6.35 and 8 mm shank options, 15.9 mm cutting length and two teeth (2T), in R2, R3 and R6.35 radius versions; inserts 15.9 x 9 x 1.5 per the specifications table.

How It Works

The insert knives seat in precision pockets and present ground carbide edges to the workpiece. When an edge dulls, the knife is turned to its second edge or swapped in minutes — the body, its shank and its concentricity stay on the spindle, and the next cut lands at the same dimension.

Applications

  • Corner rounding on panels
  • Large-radius edge profiles
  • Furniture edge finishing
  • Decorative corner work

Suitable Materials

  • Melamine-faced particleboard
  • MDF and laminated boards
  • Plywood and veneered panels
  • Solid wood

Suitable materials: melamine-faced particleboard, MDF, laminate HPL, veneered plywood, solid hardwood

The insert knife holds the corner radius across long runs.

System Comparison: Replaceable Insert vs. Solid Knife

Insert bits keep the steel body in service and replace only the cutting edges. For production routing and panel work, this is usually the lower-cost way to hold edge quality.

Property Replaceable Insert Knife (This Tool) Solid Profile Knife
Edge replacement Swap the worn insert only; the steel body stays in service Regrind or replace the complete tool
Body material 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel body, reused across insert changes Whole tool consumed as the edge wears
Downtime per edge change Minutes — index or swap the insert Send out for regrinding or buy a new tool
Profile changes Fit a different insert geometry to the same body New tool required per profile
Edge condition Fresh edge on every change; consistent cut quality Edge quality drifts between regrinds
Best suited for Production cutterheads with repeat profiles One-off profiles and low-volume work

Solid knives remain the better choice for one-off profiles and very low volumes.

Delivery Scope

Single bit. Order by product code with the diameter, shank, cutting length and tooth count stated in the specifications table below.

Why Choose VPOINT

  • One-year warranty on every cutter — defects in material or workmanship are covered for 12 months from delivery.
  • Custom tooling — diameters, bores, cutting widths and tooth counts built to your drawing or sample.
  • Non-standard fabrication — profiles and sizes outside the standard catalogue, including profile restoration.
  • Resharpening service — cutters return to service after regrinding at a fraction of new-tool cost.
  • Factory-direct since 2008 — ISO 9001 manufacturing in Sichuan and Dongguan, China; 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel bodies; no trading intermediaries.

Send a drawing, a sample or a worn tool, and our engineering team will quote the exact specification you need.

Precision & Quality Control

Every cutter is inspected at micron level before shipment. Cutting diameter (ØD), bore (Ød), cutting width/height (B/H) and overall dimensions are measured against the values listed in the specifications table, and cutting edge runout and concentricity are verified on the assembled tool.

Tools measuring outside tolerance are reground or scrapped — they do not ship. Inspection is performed under our ISO 9001 quality system, with batch records retained for traceability.

Performance Data

Standard reference values for guidance only — always adjust to machine rigidity, clamping and tool wear, and confirm on the actual workpiece.

Material Typical spindle speed Typical feed Notes
MDF 18,000–22,000 rpm 8–12 m/min Insert knives hold diameter on abrasive MDF
melamine-faced board 18,000–22,000 rpm 6–10 m/min Constant diameter keeps knife changes invisible
particleboard 18,000–22,000 rpm 8–12 m/min Rotate the knife at the first sign of fuzzing
laminated panel 18,000–20,000 rpm 6–10 m/min Finer grain carbide than brazing allows
plywood / veneered panels 18,000–22,000 rpm 8–12 m/min Clean edges through alternating grain

Frequently Asked Questions

What speed and feed should I start with?

+See the performance data table above — start mid-range and tune by chip load, finish and heat.

How do I know the parameters need adjusting?

+Fuzzing means too much feed for the speed; burning means too little. Change one variable at a time.

Do you supply custom sizes?

+Yes — send a drawing or sample; custom diameters, shanks and geometries are produced to order.
