A cutter head is a tool used in various industrial processes to cut or shape materials. It typically consists of a rotating drum or cylinder that is equipped with multiple cutting edges or blades. The cutter head is usually powered by an electric motor and is designed to spin at high speeds, enabling it to efficiently cut through a wide range of materials.

Application:

A cutter head is a tool used in various industrial

Cutter heads are commonly used in woodworking, metalworking, and machining applications. In woodworking, they are used to create a variety of decorative shapes and designs in wood, such as molding and trim. In metalworking and machining, they are used to cut and shape metal parts for use in various products and applications.

Customized Cutter Head

Cutter heads come in a wide range of sizes and shapes, and are designed to work with specific types of materials and machines. They can be made from a variety of materials, including high-speed steel, carbide, and diamond, depending on the specific requirements of the application.

Overall, cutter heads are an essential tool in many industrial processes, enabling efficient and precise cutting and shaping of a wide range of materials.

Customized cutter head can be accepted.

Design and Construction

The CNC spiral bottom milling cutter pairs a 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel body with replaceable tungsten carbide insert knives. Diameter (ØD) 32 mm with 16 and 20 mm shank options, cutting lengths (L) of 60 to 80 mm and two teeth (2T); inserts 12 x 12 x 2.2 (35°) per the specifications table.

How It Works

The insert knives seat in precision pockets and present ground carbide edges to the workpiece. When an edge dulls, the knife is turned to its second edge or swapped in minutes — the body, its shank and its concentricity stay on the spindle, and the next cut lands at the same dimension.

Applications

  • Spiral bottom milling on CNC
  • Bottom cleanup after through-cutting
  • Deep pocket floors
  • Slab and spoilboard work

Suitable Materials

  • Melamine-faced particleboard
  • MDF and laminated boards
  • Plywood and veneered panels
  • Solid wood

Suitable materials: melamine-faced particleboard, MDF, laminate HPL, veneered plywood, solid hardwood

The spiral inserts plane the bottom flat at depth with chips clearing upward.

System Comparison: Replaceable Insert vs. Solid Knife

Insert bits keep the steel body in service and replace only the cutting edges. For production routing and panel work, this is usually the lower-cost way to hold edge quality.

Property Replaceable Insert Knife (This Tool) Solid Profile Knife
Edge replacement Swap the worn insert only; the steel body stays in service Regrind or replace the complete tool
Body material 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel body, reused across insert changes Whole tool consumed as the edge wears
Downtime per edge change Minutes — index or swap the insert Send out for regrinding or buy a new tool
Profile changes Fit a different insert geometry to the same body New tool required per profile
Edge condition Fresh edge on every change; consistent cut quality Edge quality drifts between regrinds
Best suited for Production cutterheads with repeat profiles One-off profiles and low-volume work

Solid knives remain the better choice for one-off profiles and very low volumes.

Delivery Scope

Single bit. Order by product code with the diameter, shank, cutting length and tooth count stated in the specifications table below.

Why Choose VPOINT

  • One-year warranty on every cutter — defects in material or workmanship are covered for 12 months from delivery.
  • Custom tooling — diameters, bores, cutting widths and tooth counts built to your drawing or sample.
  • Non-standard fabrication — profiles and sizes outside the standard catalogue, including profile restoration.
  • Resharpening service — cutters return to service after regrinding at a fraction of new-tool cost.
  • Factory-direct since 2008 — ISO 9001 manufacturing in Sichuan and Dongguan, China; 40Cr chrome-molybdenum steel bodies; no trading intermediaries.

Send a drawing, a sample or a worn tool, and our engineering team will quote the exact specification you need.

Precision & Quality Control

Every cutter is inspected at micron level before shipment. Cutting diameter (ØD), bore (Ød), cutting width/height (B/H) and overall dimensions are measured against the values listed in the specifications table, and cutting edge runout and concentricity are verified on the assembled tool.

Tools measuring outside tolerance are reground or scrapped — they do not ship. Inspection is performed under our ISO 9001 quality system, with batch records retained for traceability.
